On Bookselling | Introduction

Welcome to On bookselling by Stephen Sparks, owner of Point Reyes Books.

I plan to use this space to post occasional thoughts on the philosophy, business, and practice of selling books in the 21st century. I will also include seasonal book recommendations; conversations with booksellers, publishers, and associated professionals to capture, in a likely arbitrary way, the state of the book business today; and other as-yet-unimagined features.

A little about me: I have worked in books—in bookstores, mostly—all of my adult life. I currently own Point Reyes Books, and have published writing in The Believer, ZYZZYVA, Tin House, and elsewhere. You can find me on twitter.
